The Elk River Trail Foundation is proud to share that Elijah Lough, a dedicated member of Boy Scout Troop 123 of Clay County, has completed his Eagle Scout Project on our property in Little Italy — and the results are incredible.
For his project, Elijah installed a bike rack and horse hitching post, both cemented securely into the ground to ensure they remain protected from vandalism and long-lasting for trail users. He also led his troop in clearing a large section of invasive brush that had been encroaching on the property. Before this effort, the area was heavily overgrown, making it difficult to even see the section of land owned by the Foundation. Thanks to Elijah and his team, it now looks beautiful, welcoming, and well-maintained.
This new rest area can be found about a quarter mile past mile marker 51 in Little Italy, heading south from the Ivydale Trailhead toward Clay. The transformation not only enhances the look of the area but also provides a wonderful new stop for cyclists, equestrians, and hikers alike.
The purpose of an Eagle Scout Project is to demonstrate leadership, organization, and service to the community. Elijah showcased all of these qualities through his work on this project—successfully guiding his troop and completing a project that will benefit trail users for years to come.
We are deeply grateful to Elijah and Boy Scout Troop 123 for their hard work, dedication, and community spirit. Their contribution has created a lasting improvement to our trail system and serves as a reminder of what can be accomplished through leadership and teamwork.
We encourage everyone to visit the site and see this wonderful new addition to the Elk River Trail in person!
