Location Description
Public property This is the first access from Sutton Dam on the Elk River Water Trail. This area is operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. A short leisurely float to the Elk River Hotel & Café by GlampOut Resorts. Old Woman’s Run Access adjoins the Hotel/Café property.
Parking & Features
Paved. A temporary unloading area is located on the gravel road of the access and driving further to the river is not restricted so unloading can occur at the water’s edge. Parking is prior to the paved turnaround in the designated paved parking area. Over 30 parking spots.
Directions From I-79
From I-79 exit 62 (Sutton/Gassaway)(3.6 mi.): Turn left on WV-4 N toward Sutton; Continue 2.1 miles and turn right at the stop sign onto 2nd Street and cross bridge. Turn left at the end of the bridge on S Stonewall Street and proceed 1.4 miles. When approaching the Dam, bear to the left on Buckeye Creek Rd. and proceed to the lower dam area and onto Sutton Dam Rd. Follow Sutton Dam Rd. to its end.
