The Elk River Trail Visitor Center & Gift Shop is located at the Dundon Trailhead in Clay County and serves as a welcoming hub for visitors exploring the Elk River Trail. The visitor center pays tribute to the area’s rich railroad heritage and was designed to resemble a historic train depot. It sits near the historic junction of the Elk River Railroad and the Buffalo Creek and Gauley Railroad, which now hosts Rail Explorers. Inside, visitors can explore a museum and exhibit space, learn more about the history of the area and the Elk River Trail, and visit our gift shop featuring West Virginia-made products and Elk River Trail merchandise. The Dundon Trailhead is also an official Mountaineer Mile location, encouraging residents and visitors to get outside, stay active, and enjoy the natural beauty of the Elk River Valley.
The Visitor Center is currently open to the public and we would love to make sure it is prominent on the website as a destination for visitors traveling along the Elk River Trail.
